What I Do (and a few things I don't)

Front-End / WordPress Development

I build web sites that are beautiful, functional, and work on a wide variety of mobile devices. I use things with nerdy names like PHP, CSS, JS and HTML to accomplish this goal. I focus on WordPress, but I’ve built websites on Squarespace, Shopify, and other platforms. I stay current with best practices, new technologies, and the growing feature sets of modern browsers. I love finding elegant code solutions to complex problems, but I focus on stable solutions that just work over anything fancy and fragile.

I don't build apps for the app store on your phone

Mobile application development requires a different skill set, and while there are some overlaps with what I know and do on a day-to-day basis, I am not comfortable charging for a service where a specialist could better meet your needs.

Digital Marketing Consultation

I regularly help small- and medium-sized businesses find digital commuication solutions that hot that sweet spot between need and budget. From email campaigns, to social media, basic SEO, eCommerce solutions, and beyond, we can find a solution that fits in your schedule, reaches your audience, and doesn’t break the bank.

I do not offer "active" SEO optimization

I can set up your website to ensure that Google can find you easily. I can advise you on best, long-term practices that will put your best foot forward. I cannot promise the front-page of Google or do the kind of keyword targeting and content sculpting that requires a near 24/7 presence to monitor & “tweak”. And honestly, I’m not convinced those short-term strategies make a very big difference for the average site owner.

Website Security & Maintenance

One of the ongoing challenges of owning a website is remembering to check on it every once in a while to keep things up to date and secure. And don’t forget about making backups! I can manage all of that nerdy stuff, so that you can focus on the business of your organization.

I don't do tech support

I can outline some options for sending bulk emails, but I am not qualified or able to recommend a laptop, help you set up your phone, or fix your home automation.

I work with all kinds of organizations

Over the course of my career, I’ve worked with all sorts of organizations: massive Las Vegas casinos, “mom and pop” local businesses, big hospitals, small churches, for-profit, not-for-profit … you get the idea. I’ve worked on projects where I have a small specific role – “we’ll get you the designs, you just need to write the code for the email”; and I’ve been the solo professional on a project who had to create design, text, and code the website. In short, I’m a marketing generalist that can stay in his lane when he needs to.

I don't work for equity

I’m not saying I won’t work with start-ups or help launch ideas. I am saying that I provide fair estimates for my work so that I can get paid. I do not want a share of your business nor do I want a cut of the profits. I’d like to do the job you pay me for – no more, no less.
